Semitool sues Novellus over copper patent infringements: Semitool Files Patent Infringement Lawsuit Against Novellus Systems PR Newswire, Monday, August 10, 1998 at 16:53 Seeks Damages and Injunctions KALISPELL, Mont., Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Semitool, Inc. (NASDAQ:SMTL) announced today it has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Novellus Systems, Inc. of San Jose, Calif. The lawsuit charges that Novellus' SABRE(TM) System copper electroplating tool infringes two patents for single substrate processing tools used in electrochemical deposition of copper onto semiconductor wafers. In its suit, Semitool is seeking damages for Novellus' infringement of its patents and an injunction prohibiting Novellus' use of its patents in the future. Semitool, Inc. designs, manufactures, markets and services equipment used in the fabrication of semiconductors. Semitool's products include electrochemical deposition, surface preparation and thermal processing equipment, and supervisory workstations for equipment control in computer integrated semiconductor fabrication environments. Semitool's products are also used in the manufacture of other devices that require similar processes, including thin film heads, compact disc masters, flat panel displays, hard disk media and ink jet heads.
