<<I wonder what is attracting money to the semis during this market?>>

INTC AMAT MU and the other semi's have been strong because scared money believes this to be a "safer" place to put money because it may have already been wash out.

Rotation, don't you think? And some in the sector KlAC, ESIO, and a few others came out and said they have seen the bottom. Whether they have or not really isn't the question, it was said, and apparently accepted by many. Since many of these stocks are already 75% off their highs, one could assume there isn't a lot of downside left. Whether that is correct or not remains to be seen. But the PE's in this sector are nowhere near irrational or exuberant- could say the same thing about the oil sector.

The SEMI's appear to be ahead of themselves based on current and projected earnings into next year. The kicker here is the pent-up demand for computer systems next year to avoid the Y2K fiasco..Many companies find it easier, not necessarily cheaper,to buy new systems compliant with Y2K solutions rather than dog it out with the likes of Keane,Alydaar,Data Dimensions,Syntel,Info Mgmt Resources, etc. This huge demand will re-energize the entire industry and the buyers of the Semi's know it now!

Bob, I wonder myself. The only thing I can think of is that Morgan (AMAT) has enough friends on The STreet that they believe him when he says there is light at the end of the tunnel. Couldn't prove it by me: it looks like an endless glut.
