Lawrence;

<<My point remains that they are juggling too many balls and dropping one is devastating in a manner that isn't so for an outsourcer>>

Point taken but my point is that it may be the only way to make any money in this business (if and when there is a recovery).

<<Notwithstanding all the hype about FC, let's not forget its still just an interface.......

Just like what I'm claiming will happen to SCSI, FC will lose it gouge. Of course, it remains an open question whether the drive makers can extract a couple fat years in the interim. Finally, recall that the pricing flexibility derives foremost from them being niche, not mainstream, products. You never have pricing power with commodities unless there's a shortage.>>

Yep...agreed. And my point is that Seagate seems well poised for this particular cycle through early development of FC. So, we ride this wave (if it ever gens up) and watch closely for the next downturn or missed release, or whatever hits it. Its like surfing. Some days you just float along with ripples running under your board and the next you are screaming along in the tube of a 25 footer. At the moment we are becalmed with sharks circling the board. My eyes are squinty from gazing seaward but I am beginning to wonder if I shouldn't be paddling hard for dry land.

Best,
Stitch
