Now that's spin control

The press release was enough to grab anybody's attention: STANWOOD'S SNOW GOOSE BOOKSTORE EARNS $21.2 MILLION

Then read the small print:

... More than Amazon.com

Snow Goose Bookstore of Stanwood announced that it didn't make any money in the second quarter, which doesn't seem very impressive until you compare it to the financial performance of Seattle-based Amazon.com, the Internet bookseller that has become a darling of Wall Street.

"Not making money may not seem like the kind of news one brags about, but the way I look at it we made $21.2 million more than Amazon.com," said Patrick Moody, co-owner of the Snow Goose Bookstore. "I figure if Amazon.com can lose millions and millions of dollars and still have a stock price in triple digits, then our company's stock price will be practically beyond measure."

Snow Goose isn't a public company, but Moody said he recently installed extra phone lines to handle any deluge of calls from investment bankers.
