Leo:
Usually fly in but drove this year as my "Venture" (Jim Griswold's 2 seat rocket) still needs a bit more TLC before it can be let loose. I've accumulated over 4,000 hours, (mostly in a series of Mooneys) chasing around the tech patch over the last 20 years

I've been in that incredible downwind leg many times, with my kids calling out traffic at 3 second intervals and grins as wide as their home province at being a part of it. Powerful memories for the "old man". Both are now grown men, both are pilots and both make a good living as air traffic controllers. We share many things, a love of planes being one of the majors. Once bitten by the aviation bug, there's no relief until there's some form of airplane in your life. Thank goodness for the ultralights as they've brought flying to the masses and they are now superbly well engineered.

I've been heavily involved with GPS since its inception. I think it is one of the few tech sectors with plenty of growth ahead of it. I am actually assisting a small GPS company with a financing as we speak. (and I think a current involvement with any junior stock is almost suicidal. (g) ). Like you, I like the Lowrance box a great deal and think it is the best for the price in the market at the moment, although I own a Garmin 195, which I "won't leave home without it".

I spent about 50 % of my time at Oshkosh on GPS research or GPS discussions. The auto guys want it "yesterday", (they make most of their profits on the "options" and GPS moving map systems are both irresistable and decent mark-up. The Japanese already have over a million systems on the road and North America's largest auto parts/systems maker is committed to providing a really superior system in the near term.

For me, the weak link has been sunlight-readable COLOUR display capability which doesn't soak up multiple amps. A few of the boys are now providing this and at acceptable prices. It's going to be a fun place to be for the next year or so, and I intend to make serious dough in the sector.

No place provides a better place to gab with all the serious players in GPS like Oshkosh.

Absolutely delighted to hear of your similar affliction with the aviation bug.

Best, Earlie
