Samsung Electronics Licenses Unwired Planet Microbrowser for CDMA
Handsets

Major CDMA Mobile Phone Manufacturer to Enable CDMA Handsets with Interactive
Information and Email Access for Consumers

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 4, 1998-- Unwired Planet, Inc. (UP) and Samsung
Telecommunications America, Inc. (STA) today announced that STA's parent company, Samsung Electronics Company Ltd.,
has licensed Unwired Planet's UP.Browser(TM) for integration in Samsung CDMA telephone handsets.

The agreement strategically benefits Samsung with time-to-market advantage supported by open standards. Under this
agreement, Unwired Planet(TM) will provide UP.Browser software releases and enhancements enabling Samsung to offer new
features as standards evolve.

Samsung will use UP's innovative microbrowser to deliver enhanced functionality and features in mainstream handsets for
consumers, in addition to providing the compelling wireless information access capabilities that network operators are eager to
deploy. Carriers deploying the Unwired Planet UP.Link(TM) Platform on CDMA networks will be able to utilize these
capabilities to offer innovative electronic customer care applications and information services, as well as Email to their
subscribers.

''Samsung's major CDMA carrier customers in North America are asking for the flexibility and scalability of UP's open
solution,'' said Peter Skarzynski, vice president of wireless sales and marketing at Samsung Telecommunications America. ''As
carriers develop strategies that require data services and a microbrowser, licensing UP.Browser will enable Samsung to lead
with innovative data solutions.''

UP's open software platform allows carriers to lower their operating costs and differentiate their services offerings, through the
continual introduction of new features and functionality, which directly benefit consumers. The rich functionality and demand of
UP-enabled phones will drive consumers to expect a browser in every handset.

''UP's commitment to innovation and open standards together with Samsung's ability to deliver high-volume, quality products at
affordable prices, will deliver the flexibility and continual feature innovations carriers require to stay competitive,'' said Alain
Rossmann, chairman and chief executive officer of Unwired Planet.

Mobile phones running UP.Browser deliver standards-based, secure, and scalable interactive applications deployed on
wireless networks. Mobile phone manufacturers can add WAP functionality across entire product lines, without adding to the
cost or size of handset form factors. Users of wireless handsets running UP.Browser gain fully interactive access to their own
Email and Personal Organizer, and key Web-based information from Intranets and WWW information sites, including financial
services, news updates, entertainment listings, directories and electronic commerce applications.
