3Com Boy, Many thanks for recording Eric B's. talk in Chicago. Some comments: Eric B: "We're going to have a good Q1 and poised for an outstanding Q2." If true, and I take him at his word, this is great!! I don't see how he would say this unless he wanted to risk another hazing like what he's had through the last year. Plus, he could get sued up the cazoo for saying stuff like this without being able to back it up. I'm sure one of Eric B.'s top thoughts as of last few months isdon't getting sued .CSCO has spurred partnerships by going head to head with the NT's, LU, ERICY's of the world. We're in a much better position to accomplish our growth goals than they are. " True, one of COMS undiscovered secrets...lot of depth of knowledge in all aspects of global networks...and capability to have an influence on all areas."China: 3Com has won or on the verge of winning several major orders in China" I was surprised that this wasn't played up more in the news of recent. I assumed it was becaue Eric B. didn't have a contract "in his hand". But this is a major milestone. 3Com has the best product mix and associated costs for an environment like E.Asia. Can you imagine China getting used to using Palm Pilots all over the place? These are more affordable than buying loads of desktop PCs and could improve productivity tremendously in those countries. The large majority of COMS's products are affordable to the Chinese. Much moreso than expensive CSCO hardware priced for Fortune 500 companies. Plus, COMS has manufacturing plants (or at least is buidling them) in E.Asia, which will prove very beneficial in the long run for lowering costs and global competitiveness.Microsoft/COMS relationship: coms and msft are involved in over 80 different projects together. CSCO has severely overstated their partnership with MSFT. Eric will be meeting with Gates and his team over the next few weeks to discuss the continuation of their partnership. This is such an important point that was made in Eric B's last interview, and I can't believe the press didn't do more to expand on it. I figured it was again, because, people want to see the contract and the $$ in Eric B's. hand...such is the general distrust of 3Com. The way I look at it, MSFT is in huge competition with Novell. Novell is coming back from the dead and wants to be the leader in network software. They are ahead of this compared to NT's network capabilities. Novell has an incredible installed base of customers (their biggest asset), and they are hoping that Novell gets back on track so they don't have to redo their infrastructure. Well, the 3Com and MSFT combo. is a great/perfect match up. I don't see how it can miss. This alone should boost 3Com up to $50/share... It gives MSFT much better leverage to use NT in major enterprises, and have leading network software - one of their soft points. It's a massive combo for both sides, since they both won't be intruding on each other's turf... unless 3Com wants to get into network software, which I don't think they do. The other stuff Eric B. is good also. Problem is that it's potential for future $$ and the market wants to see profits now.
