Richard, CNBC had a feature on gold for the 2nd consecutive day. Today it was a commodity guy saying how gold (as a commodity) is dead. In the old days, he said, there was little alternative to gold and silver as a hedge for interest rates, inflation, bear stock market, etc. Today, he continued, investors can play interest derivatives, options, futures, currencies, overseas markets, index options, etc etc.

In other words, there are so many alternatives for those who don't like common stocks, that interest in precious metals commodities just isn't there. Gold is losing out as in investment medium.
