How hard is it to sell in China????????????????????

BEIJING (Reuters) -- [ Walt Disney Co ] is facing a battle distributing its latest animated film about a Chinese heroine in the country where the legend began.

In Disney's film Mulan, the title character poses as her father in order to fight for the emperor against invading hordes.

But a Xinhua news agency report on Tuesday indicated Disney now faces a battle trying to distribute the old Chinese tale to cinemas in Mulan's homeland.

Xinhua offered no concrete reasons for the hold-up of the film, which has already been translated into Chinese. But it quoted an official from the China Film Corporation as calling the issue "complicated."

"The artistic taste and story line of a foreign movie, and the Chinese government's policies are both elements affecting the decision-making process," the agency quoted the official.

Disney upset China last year with the release of Kundun, a film based on an official biography of the Dalai Lama, Tibet's exiled spiritual leader. China has often accused him of trying to win independence from Chinese rule for the Himalayan region.

In spite of its absence in theaters, pirated VCD versions of "Mulan" are readily available in stalls around Beijing.</>
