Jim -
Nice swing, well hit, but dropped in just over the foul line...

CPQ didn't get credit for either the revenue or the units that were in the channel - CPQ no longer owned them. In fact one CPQ exec (actually former exec as of a few weeks ago) said - 'over the last few years it was like running up your visa card - a thousand this month, a thousand the next, pretty soon you owe 20 grand.' 1Q and 2Q 98 were CPQ paying off the revolving credit.

I think that the 1Q and 2Q numbers are pretty much useless either pro or con on where CPQ really is, because of the channel stuffing and DEC acquisition. The point I was making is that the unit volume that customers bought was probably at least as great as 97 run rate, which is more than 3M units /Q, not the 1.8M / Q of sales in.

Jim, news from Dell! Dell Reduces Prices On Corporate Notebook and Desktop Systems.

''The price cuts are due to a combination of component cost reductions and efficiencies of Dell's build-to-customer-order structure. Our direct business model allows us to pass these kind of savings on to customers very quickly,'' said Joe Marengi, senior vice president, Dell Relationship Group.
