May is from Maia, one of the names of Cybele (mother goddess). Crops were planted in this month and so it was sacred to her.
April --couple of theories but the most accepted and the one I like is that it came from the Greek Aphro (Aphrodite) through the Etruscan Apru. Greek goddess of love. The other theory is that it comes from the Latin aperire to open and refers to the budding of trees, etc.
Actually, I think Octavius was a grand-nephew of Julius.

We once had a discussion of February here. That was when the Romans had a festival of purification---the Februa (Februa was the God of purification). I have a memory that it involved striking women with a soft whip---or did I have a kinky dream last night?
