You should know am long on AMZN and will debate points from
that perspective. That said, there is a chance that all 1.5million
members are all among the 3.1 million accounts that AMZN has; or
that none of the 1.5million members are AMZN account holder; more
realistically however is that some overlap as you point out.

Next, what is the price that one should pay for an online community?
I ask this because book/video/cd purchase recommendations from
a community of members with similar interests and a "Buy From Amazon"
button on every page of the bulletin boards is definitely very
valuable. It is possible back lash from excessive advertising
could happen, but it is very unlikely. Every which way you
look at it, when an advertiser owns the real estate (pages)
and supplies the product, they have a form of monopoly in that
particular setting.
