Re: The gunfire sound effects. They are without a doubt the most realistic sounds of gunfire I have ever seen in any movie. They sounded exactly like the actual weapons being discharged-not the stupid sounds hollywood makes up for movies like 'Lethal Weapon', etc. Actual gunfire sounds like loud pops not the explosions you hear like in most movies or in indoor firing ranges. I'm amazed they were 'dubbed' as you implied, and I'm sure you're right. Did you also notice the actual recoils made when the weapons were fired instead of them jerking up the weapon like in the 'Dirty Harry' and such movies. They must have been using heavy blank wads to create the recoils. It was pointed out to me by my brother the actual 'tank killers' in WWII were P47s and not P51s but there just aren't many P47s around any more with which to make movies.
