K6-2-300 now only $144 at The Chip Merchant. If anyone wants to build a fast and cheap system, now is the time. Put aside your distaste for Jerry Sanders (it is hard) and help support AMD.

I bought my chip about a month ago for about $180, wish I would have waited, but the performance gain was worth it. A-Open mb has worked flawlessly.

P,
Re -- So, I change my estimate to 18% and Going from 66 MHz to 100 MHz gains 10% on Winstone.

I like it!! However the 10% gain also comes from increased memory access speed, Your computations no doubt have included this?

Petz - Re: "K6-2 300 MHz leaves Pentium II-333 IN THE DUST.

WINSTONE 98 SCORES
AMD K6-2-333: 23.1
AMD K6-2-300: 23.0
Intel Pentium II-333: 22

Anand has posted the 66 MHz FSb Intel 300 MHz Pentiun II Winstone 98 at 23.4 - slightly better than the 100 MHz FSB K6-2 333MHz.

Check here for the results - along with 450 MHz Pentium II data.

Re: "K6-2 300 MHz leaves Pentium II-333 IN THE DUST. "

Neat Petz, but hardly a reliable source.

Re: "As for estimating 15% performance gain for K6-3, to be truthful, the 15% estimate was what is known as a WAG, but here's a more careful analysis.
1. I've heard 3-5% due to architectural improvements "

Now that's what I call a more careful analysis. Did you hear it at the "pool"?
