[s. america etc] hi shlomi, thanks for the news, should be an interesting stretch for orctf in early sept when dt announces.. hope it is interesting in a good way... :) believe orctf has been positioning themselves in s. america for some time.. as far back at least as 96 they were selling in chile and brazil... as discussed previously (i think) figure for them to have gotten this far geographically (s. america) this quickly they must be working with partners, but no clear clues to date .. suppose we'll hear eventually if things work out.. as we know orctf plays their cards closely.. so had to laugh a little when tamir mentioned they had just "started" in s. america.. figured he more likely meant "going strong"... as you mention rough transcription from the cc. on south america: "regarding s. america... without going into too much detail, we started activity in s. america about 6 to 9 months ago both in hdsl and adsl... and we are very optimistic about the results that we see in this area... in the short term it is only going to be hdsl because the adsl market in s. america will take off with about a year of delay relative to the us or the european market did you sell to s. america this qtr? yes , but not in significant volumes... what about asia? we don't put much emphasis in asia today.. we didn't put much emphasis even before the crisis.. the main emphasis of orckit was usa and europe... after we got established in europe we turned to s. america.. in asia , we are going to work together with fujitsu.. this is the extent" your comment about eci and wstl seems like a real possibility... the fit would seem good... wstl reportedly has good adsl product, lots of experience, but maybe not so cost effective... strong reputation with established customers in the usa, but maybe a little weak overseas... right now they might need to do a deal as they are burning cash quickly... and might need a partner with fiberoptic expertise for an end to end solution.. you probably have a better idea than i, but eci seems like they're scrambling for adsl product/experience, is very strong on the manufacturing side (for example the recent lu/eci deal),... is stronger overseas than in the usa... could use some introductions in the usa... is in acquisition mode and has many pieces in the big picture covered... also it has been rumored on threads that wstl management was recently in israel, tho no one mentioned eci.. altho it's been rumored on the threads that wstl might be up for sale, wstl price slide (current market conditions aside) would not seem to indicate an imminent bidding war.. best wishes s
