Incidentally the red and blue indicators are working for my bookmark master list. Does this suggest anything?

I'm afraid I'm clueless, but I certainly would like to learn the answer, should you find out. Very odd. (You could try re-installing over your current installation, but it may not help at all.)

I'm using Msie 4.01 sp-1 and the setting to identify visited/unvisited msgs/sites can be found in IE 4.01 under View>Internet Options>General>Colors button>(below History retention setting) .The "Use Windows" colors should have a "check mark". I don't recall if the configuration/setting was the same in Msie 3.02.
