FEM,

>> Fire all those high paying stock brokers and mutual fund managers. Buy your own stocks at a discount house and don't trade. <<

Good advice, but the friends that I talk to are afraid to do that! They claim that they have no knowledge of the market, and when they talk to the 'experts' that view is enhanced with all of the 'jibberish' that spews forth.

I remember when I retired, I talked to one of these guys, and they recommended an annuity! I said, let me get this straight, I buy an annuity, which I cannot change without great expense, which pays 8-9%. Then I have to 'pay' the company 3% to send me a check for 5%! Have I missed something here? Have I got 'STUPID' stamped on my forehead? You could interest me in a Brokerage Account, however!

Regards,

Ken

That goes for the cold calling parasites that call up and say "hi, how you doing today, well John Smith is about to recommend a great buying opportunity, and between you and me, it is just the greatest inside tip."

Who they fooling on this crap. I don;t know this guy from the mailman and he expects me to invest with him? It just makes me disrespect the broker alot more. I have this image of some 21 year old sitting there with 3 kinds of plaid on, a very bad haircut, very bad personal hygeine, and just wanting to make $5 for this closer sale.

Went to a discount broker years ago when my high priced Alex Brown started screwing with bid/ask in addition to 10 times the commision that I pay at the discount house. Never got advice of any kind, never got help in investing from them. Never been back since. Now I may get money back from the NASDAQ since they finally got around to policing these guys on this little practice.

And as for CNBC, been hearing them tell all morning how the sky is falling. That was yesterday. today is pretty much stable so far. but every half hour they come on to tell how investors are "in for a bumpy ride". Made $300 so far for the day on trades.....

bought Dell at 105 1/2....
