Bzzzzzzzzzzzttt! Wrong!

It was not "the press" saying that. It was CA. The scrofulous Mr. Kumar, in fact, was quoted as saying (words to this effect): "The fact that we announced this acquisition now and jeopardized our big money grab proves what great guys we are."

Of course, he ignored the fact that the Big Three would have gotten the money NO MATTER WHAT by year 2000, whether or not the stock went anywhere. They also could have qualified for it if the price was over $x during 1999. So it was pretty much a done deal, the only question was when.
