C-Cube's CL9100 and CL9110 Provide Samsung with Core Digital Video Solution For Growing Digital Television Market
MILPITAS, Calif., April 8, 1996 -- C-Cube Microsystems Inc. (NASDAQ: CUBE), a market leader in digital video, today announced that Samsung has selected C-Cube's CL9100 MPEG-2 set-top video decoder and CL9110 transport demultiplexer as the critical digital video engines for Samsung's new digital television set-tops and new wide-screen televisions with integrated set-top receivers. Samsung's new set-top systems will be used to receive digital broadcast satellite (DBS) and cable services, offering consumers a wide range of programming choices, as well as MPEG-2 video and audio quality that is superior to that of existing analog cable systems. Samsung's digital set-top receivers and wide-screen televisions are already being deployed by KoreaSAT in the Korean domestic market, providing consumers with optimized digital video services into the home.

"Digital video is enabling new entertainment and information services to be delivered to consumer households worldwide," said Alex Daly, vice president of marketing for C-Cube Microsystems. "C-Cube's MPEG-2 set-top solutions offer a superset of MPEG-2, enabling broadcasters to add advanced features to enhance the viewing experience for the consumer. We are pleased that such a distinguished leader in consumer electronics as Samsung has selected C-Cube to provide the core video technology for these set-top products."

"The DBS market is expanding worldwide at a rapid pace and Samsung strives to be a leading digital set-top manufacturer," said M.Y. Shin, director of marketing for Samsung. "Samsung set-top receivers are being deployed to provide consumers with a full-featured, yet affordable, digital video receiver and integrated television that leverages C-Cube's digital video expertise to deliver optimized video services to the end-user."
