Half a million units in Europe by years end for Commandos? Sounds a bit high, but it also sounds great! I expect it to be a big hit here in the US as well. THe gamecenter article is nice press (though I usually detest their site and anything to do with it) though I have my own description of the game. It is a cross between Syndicate and Lemmings! Strange, I know, but play it and you will kind of see what I mean. As for Gangsters, It sounds great as well. Both of these games do what needed to be done: put a little real time strategy game action into different time periods with different concepts. A fresh idea. God, am I sick of RTS games in the future...which brings me to Dominion Storm...I don't think its all that bad, though I have only played the demo. It is hard, but it is indeed "more of the same." I would like to see more innovation, and I think that Ion Storm will provide this in future games, as the Dominion game really wasn't theirs from the ground up. For the record, PC Gamer gave it a 55% rating this month. Yucko. So Daikatana is sticking with Q2 Engine. *sigh* I am getting sick trying to keep up with what they are doing with that game. Faulty press doesn't help much, though I will say that if it comes out in the next few months that sticking with Q2 engine would be ok. I hate the thought of them buying a new engine every week $$$$. TR3...Has anyone seen good press on this one? Lara has been on the cover a few times, but I see a lot of "more of the same" in the articles. While I don't think that messing with a good thing is good business, the computer industry expects innovation. CGW had an article called "Tomb Robbers" which detailed our coming competition. There is quite a bit of it, and they all look good. We cannot afford a missed step. This is one of the reasons that I am not so against the Psygnosis thing. Right now Lara is still hot...the stock is down, but we have Lara as a bargaining chip. If TR3 isn't a great effort, and the movie bombs, our franchise could be in trouble... Opinion wanted: EIDSY said at one point that they were going to skip a TR release in 98 to work on a new engine, and release TR3 in 99. They later broke that idea, and announced TR3 at E3. Since it is not a really big step technology wise, is it possible that it is not taking maximum man hours to prepare? If so, would that mean that members of Core are working on the next engine right now, so that TR4 would be release in '99? Or will we skip '99? Last item: is EIDSY going to continue to sit back and watch Resident Evil 1/2 continue with success, only to see Parasite Eve from Square kick ass? Why haven't we used our engine to build a horror type game? McDonalds made a franchise out of a quick burger. But today you can get salads, chicken and fish sandwhiches, etc... We have the distribution, name, and engine to make other games. WHY has this not been done??
