Leading U.S. Semiconductor Company Expands Commitment to Fast-Growing Chinese Consumer Electronics Market With Local Services and Support
BEIJING, Aug. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI), a leading Silicon Valley semiconductor solutions company with worldwide operations, has opened a design facility in Beijing to address the rapidly growing Chinese marketplace for consumer electronics products.
The new facility, staffed with sales, marketing and engineering personnel, will allow LSI Logic to work closely with Chinese manufacturers of digital home entertainment products, such as Digital Video Disk (DVD) players, satellite TV set-top boxes, and digital cameras. LSI Logic provides the electronic 'brains' for these systems, with chips, software, and other key components integrated into comprehensive Reference Designs or Manufacturing Kits. The company's products, which offer complete solutions for design and production, will enable Chinese manufacturers to implement world standard technology and to accelerate the development of a range of consumer electronics products.
John D'Errico, vice president and general manager of LSI Logic Pan Asia Marketing, said, "LSI has had an active presence in China since 1991, and with the consumers' increasing demand for high-quality entertainment electronics, we have achieved considerable success in the DVD and set-top box arenas. We have already established a number of strong customer and manufacturing partner relationships, including those being announced today with DSP and Thakral."
"With our new design facility in Beijing, we are reinforcing our commitment to our customers and partners," D'Errico added. "With a local presence, we can be readily available to provide support tailored for special requirements, whether they need production-ready manufacturing kits or complete concept-to-product design support. We will also be better placed to work cooperatively with the Ministry Information Infrastructure (MII) and Chinese manufacturers in accelerating consumer electronics market growth."
Heading the Beijing design facility is Dai Wei Yeo, applications manager, who was promoted to the new post from his position as applications engineer in LSI Logic's Pan Asian headquarters, Singapore. Mr. Yeo reports to Dipak Raval, managing director of LSI Logic's Pan Asia operations. The Beijing facility currently has a staff of 10, including field application engineers, sales and marketing personnel. Five additional staff members will be added in the next year.
"LSI Logic is known for providing its customers with system-level solutions and enabling their customers to bring products to market in record time. With our offices now operational in China, we can ensure that our customers here have the same level of access to LSI Logic's capabilities," said Dipak Raval.
D'Errico said LSI Logic plans to open additional design facilities in other Chinese electronics market hubs, including Shanghai and Shinzen, within the next several years.
