Iridium Seeks Rural Telephony License - Peru

August 5, 1998

United States-based global satellite communications operator Iridium is considering requesting an extension to its existing satellite license to include an option to operate rural public telephony in Peru, Iridium South America marketing manager Jesus Huaman said.

Masterom, which supplies Iridium services in Peru, said the move would
be part of a planned incursion into the Peruvian market.

The Iridium low-orbit satellite system will connect 126 mobile networks to allow global roaming when operations begin on September 24.
