Ben and all,

long term SUNW holder, just never had any reason to post before.

This rumor needs to be put in proper perspective. Whether it is true or not, I think more attention would be put on the value of SUNW as a company to IBM or anyone. Let us assume SUNW is going to close at 48 today, is there any premium in this price? Other rumor takeover candidates, such as Ascend, traded at a huge premium for months before the recent fall.

I guess I don't see anything negative here, even if IBM's rumor is just that, rumor.

IBM validated the PC. MSFT & INTC stole the market share. If IBM and SUNW play their cards right they might steal some back. Next generation PC might be Merced based with NT or Java based. IBM sure isn't going to buy INTC or MSFT.

Java hasn't taken off yet because it runs slow on bloated INTC chips and MSFT software. Too much downward compatibility built in. With IBM making custom chips I would not be surprised if they start making the Java chips in copper.
