CFON = DELL Competitor ?

jhg, you asked if C-Phone could be a competitor to DELL some day, citing:
a TV set-top device that provides Internet access using a television and a regular analog phone line. C-Phone ITV is an embedded system Internet browser capable of connecting to any Internet Service Provider by a dial-up connection. It is completely self contained and does not require a personal computer. Simple connections to any television set and access to an analog phone line are all that are required.

As I recall, DELL's main customers are in Education, Government, and Corporate America. With the exception of education, I do not see how those segments need or want a television hook-up device. Although it might serve some of the secondary functions, from what you have said it does not serve any of the primary functions: How well does it do word processing, spreadsheets, database management, technical design, etc.? Can it be networked into LANs and WANS? Will it allow you to manipulate sound and video segments? What kind of data storage does it have? Where is it located? Answer those questions positively, and maybe the answer is yes.

Not a definitive answer, but in short: I don't think so, though it might impact the portion of the market which surfs only and has no use for other PC functions.

DELLish, 3.
