Once upon a time the was a Papa Bear named Andrew Grove. Papa Bear gave a speech on his company and leadership style (on CSPAN I think). His main points.
1) In hi-tech companies dramatic changes that present problems happen very quickly. (He had a special name for them, I forget, call them "seachanges").
2) The first to recognize these "seachanges" are the frontline technical troops, not the generals in the rear.
3) Most corporations do not allow or strongly discourage "negative" information to flow up to the top(Ivory Tower).
4) Papa Bear said (I'm paraphrasing) "You cannot shoot the messenger of negative news. Not even 1 in 500 or you will never get the information to face the next challenge until it is too late. You must keep your ears open."

This is the kind of corporation where baby bear John will invest his dollars. IMHO while there will be slowdowns in this industry, the ones that recover the fastest will have Papa Bear's style not the Ivory Tower.

Pleasant Dreams,

-John
