Your first question should be, were we in "fast market conditions" at that time, if the answers is yes (which I believe it is) than that means whatever they come back with is it, "too bad"
There are times in markets like this where it is very important to use stops and limits and times when you should always go to the market but one thing that will screw you up for sure is not being deliberate.
