That is especially sad because it's so demeaning. To be ill and weak and dependent and then, on top of it, dehumanized. LAst year sometime I happened to catch one of those awful afternoon shows--don't remember which-and it featured a huge woman-confined to her bed because of her weight (although she had a boyfriend--doesn't that make you wonder????). The bad part was she had a teenage daughter. Now it's one thing to have your own life destroyed-and I don't pretend to know what factors are involved in that kind of weight problem--but what a tragedy for that girl, who had to wait on her mother and was torn between love and disgust and anger. Though I don't think I really want to see it on TV. We seem to have lost all sense of privacy and dignity.
