diana, thanks for dredging that up. It really was enlightening. Even now 6 months later, we have to admit that things couldn't be better from the perspective of the consumption of that all-important black stuff: We've got scads of cheap oil, OPEC is hardly even worth a mentionable in the ranks of powerful entities, and there is very little if any official kicking against the ever-present and powerful US military forces in the gulf. At least one carrier battle group hovering about the region is just a normal state of affairs.

To top it off, we now have some of the Persian Gulf states causing government budget cut-backs and serious worries over the way things will be in the near future and further future for countries used to an economic "easy street" for a long time.

We should all remember how friendly and cooperative the former Soviet Union got when the Soviet Union collapsed in 1985.

Perhaps there may be a larger picture here regarding the desires of the United States in the areas of civic freedoms and the rights of individuals in all parts of the world.

Perhaps it's time for the USA to reopen those Mideast Peace talks between Israel and the Islamic countries....oh yeah I forgot, everything was fixed and solved in Dayton, Ohio. -g-
