Stitch, You know this man from Integral? Seagate Names Larry N. Birtzer Vice President, Quality, Recording Heads Group SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif., Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Seagate Technology, Inc. (NYSE: SEG - news), the world's highest volume supplier of magnetic recording heads, today announced that Larry N. Birtzer has joined the Company as vice president, Quality, Recording Heads Group (RHG). Birtzer will report to Dr. Brendan Hegarty, executive vice president and chief operating officer, Seagate RHG, and will oversee quality processes for the Company's worldwide recording heads operations. ''With more than 30 years experience in the industry, Larry has the knowledge and expertise to help make Seagate not just the largest, but indisputably the best, manufacturer of recording heads in the world,'' said Dr. Hegarty. ''Larry will be responsible for maintaining and increasing Seagate's quality commitment and implementing new processes that will further enhance the Company's products.'' Birtzer joins Seagate from Integral Peripherals in Boulder, Colorado where he held the position of president and chief operating officer. Prior to Integral, he worked at Seagate Technology from 1989 to 1994, joining the Company through the acquisition of Control Data Corporation (CDC). Throughout his 25 years with Seagate and CDC, he held several executive positions including vice president, Head Fabrication, in Bloomington, Minnesota; vice president, Printed Circuit Board Operations in Singapore; vice president and general manager of Media Operations, Omaha, Nebraska and vice president of Manufacturing in Bloomington, Minnesota. Before joining CDC in 1969, Birtzer spent eight years with AC Electronics Division of General Motors in Oak Creek, Wisconsin. Birtzer earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin. Birtzer replaces Steve Gunther who has taken on the challenging role of vice president and process leader for Seagate's launch and implementation of the renowned Six Sigma breakthrough strategy, a quality initiative focused on heightening Seagate's competitive advantage by reducing defects and increasing customer satisfaction.
