Seagate Names Larry N. Birtzer Vice President, Quality, Recording
Heads Group

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif., Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Seagate Technology, Inc. (NYSE: SEG - news), the world's
highest volume supplier of magnetic recording heads, today announced that Larry N. Birtzer has joined the
Company as vice president, Quality, Recording Heads Group (RHG). Birtzer will report to Dr. Brendan Hegarty,
executive vice president and chief operating officer, Seagate RHG, and will oversee quality processes for the
Company's worldwide recording heads operations.

''With more than 30 years experience in the industry, Larry has the knowledge and expertise to help make
Seagate not just the largest, but indisputably the best, manufacturer of recording heads in the world,'' said Dr.
Hegarty. ''Larry will be responsible for maintaining and increasing Seagate's quality commitment and
implementing new processes that will further enhance the Company's products.''

Birtzer joins Seagate from Integral Peripherals in Boulder, Colorado where he held the position of president and
chief operating officer. Prior to Integral, he worked at Seagate Technology from 1989 to 1994, joining the Company
through the acquisition of Control Data Corporation (CDC). Throughout his 25 years with Seagate and CDC, he
held several executive positions including vice president, Head Fabrication, in Bloomington, Minnesota; vice
president, Printed Circuit Board Operations in Singapore; vice president and general manager of Media
Operations, Omaha, Nebraska and vice president of Manufacturing in Bloomington, Minnesota. Before joining
CDC in 1969, Birtzer spent eight years with AC Electronics Division of General Motors in Oak Creek, Wisconsin.
Birtzer earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin.

Birtzer replaces Steve Gunther who has taken on the challenging role of vice president and process leader for
Seagate's launch and implementation of the renowned Six Sigma breakthrough strategy, a quality initiative
focused on heightening Seagate's competitive advantage by reducing defects and increasing customer satisfaction.

''The single most important factor affecting a business's performance is the quality of its products and services;
and Seagate's decision to deploy Six Sigma demonstrates the Company's commitment to achieve superior
performance in this area,'' said Dr. Hegarty. ''Seagate's dedication to quality improvements will lead to
bottom-line savings, a reduction in defects and, ultimately, more satisfied customers. I am confident Steve is one
of the key people that can lead us in this effort.''
