They may be raising cash.

Funds may be cleaning out their small cap pet positions, leaving only big cap, and thereby (hopefully) liquid positions on the "worry board"

It wouldn't take much selling of the small caps to drive the price down hard. Given that the amounts involved are probably minor, to some extent the funds may not be overly concerned about the price they get... and therefore the discount you are surprised to see.

The big question is.... If all the funds want to bail out of their main positions, Whew, I really do want to be around to see the action.
My guess is that we are going to see a complete freeze-up of the market, but don't ask me what it will look like, I'm waiting to see this myself!
