Gary, I agree with you. They don't seem to understand the whole PARADIGM SHIFT. They don't understand the tremendous amount of data traffic as result of the INTERNET. I think the change will happen faster than most analysts prediction, purely based on the Internet growth. I like one sentence Mr. Chambers says in every Q conference call " INTERNET changing the way we live, play and do business". ABSOLUTELY CORRECT. In summary Mr or Miss Lopez is just another analyst. There is always an analyst who has an opposite opinion, makes an interesting discussion. It is like AL Michaels, Dan Dierdoff commenting about the game before it begins. They don't play the game, simply analyze. Mr. Lopez is similar. He will change his opinion as soon as the first major carrier deployment in large scale. Congrats Gary, on good CSCO report. BR.

DUDE, Re -- but fail to evaluate the reduce costs assiciated with a simpified network and reduced management. Huh? like Cisco in its years of existence has "reduced" management with its IOS right DUDE? I wont even bother to comment on your "simplified" network considering the "simplified" network that Cisco has installed in various places. Forester is a well established research organization and its reports deserve due consideration. Stockman P.S BTW you said you wouldn't post garbage and yet you continually do it. Sheesh.

Can you get some up time of lets say 50 CISCO routers for the past 1 year (leave the scheduled maintenance) from MCI backbone and report those numbers. By the same token, get the up time of some 50 TDM switches from 50 busy cities in US and provide the data. I agree with forrester report. Packet switched networks have way to go when compared to circuit switched networks. Convergence will happen, but lot of them is hype right now. All compression algorithms are meaningless (practically) when we have DWDM available. If you do a digitization of voice calls at 64Kbps or 8KHZ sample it would yield 6400 bytes/sec in 1 direction. For 100 million phone calls, it would be 640 billion bytes/sec. With DWDM, one could carry this very easily like NT's chairman mentioned. It is regular file transfer, HTML traffic like what I am generating now which will interfere with voice traffic. Today, Nobody has a system which can scale to 100 million phones call along with data traffic. Imagine an earthquake like 1989 quake in SFO and you get 160 million phone calls into the city for the entire day with each one holding onto the phone for 15 minutes. Can CISCO solve this problem (provide a switch/router/convergence BS) in 1 year from now at the same time sending data traffic across.?.
