Hi Jon: Sure thing, Ac3 encoding does belong on a high end card for the pro. But it would also make for a awsome card for the non audio making pro that would love to encode Ac3 on the cheap. Its not a BIG deal I know but it really makes for a nice option. Decoding you talked about the main point also as a thought I was thinking that the SBL may help you play DVD movies with just software decoding in some sort of hardware speedup audio hack again small thing but a nice option (highend comp needed I know)... hell most people from what I read don't use the VCR thay own to REC programs at all but LOVE the option. I think its a waste of a VCR but its not my money : ). Small things but its still nice to know you can... and with the new CD player in the plus pack i've started playing CDs all the time now. So I may just use it? Your right on the money about game-playing being the # 1 use for this card and the only question is will it have the support? I don't know if I posted this here but I think CREAF giving EAX to all PCI cards saved its butt. It should have a good base for games to write to EAX with this move. My guess is it will be a hit right off with people that still like CREAF but the key word is still. many have this thing that the card is to much money or that AURL is god or that 4 speakers is a waste... this is why I think the more options SBL has no matter how wasted the option the better as it makes the card look better then its rivals and CREAF as a co. that has the user at heart. It will take a VERY good card to break into this new 4 chan audio ground for the others that have the above problems with the card. As for price really 199 is not that much for this card as the dimd card is I think 150 or so list... Big deal. The 4 speaker thing is a raging debate and will need a few really good reviews saying you NEED this type of thing for this crowed to change which if its as good as CREAF is hyping thats what we should get... I hope : ). The AURL nuts??? God only knows what a nut thinks : ) . All in all the card really does sound like its the last card you will need for years to come. The only thing I didn't talk about that will be a big gamer question in the next few mouths as sound cards will start to be benchmarked, will the SBL be the fasted audio card? If it is gamers will want it just for that as sound kills a few frames per sec off your games. Get the SBL and boost you video type of thinking. It has Dx6 Accel in hardware so im hoping it is... again lets see if CREAFs hype about the new chip is as Ricky Lake would say ALL THAT. : ) All I really know is the cards Pics look cool... reviews are to die for we make money... the ads I like... the specs sound awesome... and I didn't win a SBL.. yet.
