My reaction:

1st, It will be many years before any of the oil in the reserves would actually hit the market. So, it shouldn't have any affect on today's market.

2nd, talk is cheap. Saying they may open the strategic reserves and ACTUALLY opening them up to drilling are 2 different things.

Bottom line, should not affect this market.

The Phillips story posted on this thread should be viewed as having an affect on this market. In particular, those companies drilling in shallow waters of GOM. Very negative for them, at least that's the way I view that news item.
