RE #2, from what I understand the assembly of the Fonar system is a bit of a major construction job in its won right. But the details of building a MRI site are interesting in that the right kind of sand has to be layered just so to within such and such tolerance of density and composition. There are definitely nuances (like controlling RF) that exceed other kinds of commercial building. For one our 1.5T systems, the cost was something like 125K for the box to be built within our pre-constructed shell. Turnkey sounds good but even fonar would need to know the suppliers for the sand and the steel etc etc in the city they are going to. I would think the local guys that usually build these sites would already have the inside track on who is reliable and who gives the best prices etc etc. You know how that business goes.... As for the toaster, can't say I ever heard of it.
