TLAB to get Sprint ATM gateway contract? Speculation on TLAB thread [Nice ASND references]
[If true, wouldn't this be a blow to CSCO/Stratacom?]

Re: Soundview Downgrade On July 1st, Soundview analysts Chandan Sarkar and
Kevin Slocun reiterated their "buy" on TLAB based on a forthcoming ATM gateway product contract with a major long-distance carrier, possibly Sprint (which may have sponsored this product). They indicated that TLAB was their first choice in the telecom sector and that the contract was to be announced in the next two months. Although they noted that CIENA's product line could undermine the habitual predictability of TLAB's financial results, and they may not have been aware of Ascend's upcoming announcement of an entirely optical system that eliminates the need for cross-connects (TLAB's core business), what I want to know, in view of the downgrade, is what happened to the ATM contract?

Re: TLAB ATM Mike, should I assume that people on this thread are not aware that ATM is part of TLAB's diversification strategy? To a certain degree, it's been hush, hush. But I'm looking at a SoundView report indicating that the co. has been developing two products: an ATM-based hybrid cross-connect and an ATM gateway. TLAB apparently plans to introduce the cross-connect late next year, but the ATM gateway seems closer to readiness. SoundView supposed the forthcoming contract would be "significant." That's why I found their short-term downgrade weird, since the contract, if contract there is, should be announced within the next few weeks.

Re: Recent Stock Price Hit
Mike, what do you mean when you say, "Trust me." Is investing about trust? When a stock takes a hit, it's invariably "interesting" to figure out why.

I made mention of the ASND announcement not becuase I think they're going to put everyone out of busines, but because that kind of public announcement dramatically foregrounds the fact that the industry is transitioning to photonics. Transition spells lack of visibility. Lack of visibility spells more of the kind of volatility with which TLAB shareholders are well acquainted.

I've been following the co. since 1/95. So I know the splendors of TLAB. But Immi is right, the stock hasn't done much for over a year - except for a few days a few weeks ago. Question is, apart from market conditions, what snuffed the momentum? And how come no one is interested in the purported ATM gateway contract?
