Bob, first, all in good fun....and I enjoy the pleasant, friendly debate.

Let me wipe the tears away as I read your excellent graphs showing the price farmers get for a 16Meg Dram has dropped by a factor of ten in just the last yr or so while Memory vendors like Micron have seen their wheat prices drop by a bit over a factor of 2 in the same time. Oops! I got this mixed up! 8) Farmers are not shutting down fabs due to overcapacity, they are plowing steppers under to keep their memory prices high!

We do agree that it is sad that the news media is more concerned with Willie and his Wonka than important issues and thus do not give the issues that really matter enough time.

BTW, Intel was getting about $450 for A P5/200 MMX uP in Jan 1997 when I bought mine and now I think they are in the $75 range.... Look at their stock plumet from $105 to $68 as a result of too many cheap uP's compared to what was needed by the market.

My point is why are farmers so special these days that they get government protection? Couldn't have old Willy Wonka just as easily bought all (or many of) the excess Compaq PC's at full price and given them to the schools thus allowing HWP, Compaq, Intel, etc. to maintain a profitable business? Of course, I am not argueing Willie do this, just using the example I am familar with to make a point.

You see, I have a Libertarian side to me and a long Calif. history (many generations) where I resent giving water to the farmers at taxpayer and home user expense so they can make a profit exporting crops to other states and countries.

thanks again for the graphs and debate.
