Acetylene bombs? No. I lived in the suburbs, so scale was always foremost in my mind. Nitrogen iodide was a popular diversion though. It can be scaled waaaay down. I could play Red Adair with a speck of nitrogen iodide on the tip of a pin and a Bic lighter. The heat would set off the microscopic charge with a Ping! like paper crinkling (or like popping a blister of bubble wrap!), and the flame would be blown out.
Nitrogen iodide is supremely pressure sensitive when dry. I made a tool out of a toothpick with a hair taped on the end. With this, i'd line up drying specks (about the size of a grain of salt) of NI. Then the hard end of the toothpick served to set off one end of the line. If my spacing was good, the whole row would go off at once. Of course, sometimes the granules cooked off early, startling me quite thoroughly.
