Bob Im sorry but I disagree with much of that. The reasons that many slaves stayed with their masters is that they had nowhere else to go, and knew absolutely nothing of the surrounding areas. Most had never been off the properties they worked on. To say that denying someone their basic freedoms is not abusing them is wrong, IMO. As far as the breakdown of the family, that is also subjective. By subjective, I dont mean that a breakdown in a nuclear family is a good thing. However, there are definitly cases and curcumstances where divorce is the correct option. sometimes people are better off apart. Even with divorce, women as a rule enjoy many more frights and freedoms as they should in today's society. Women are viewed as equal partners in a marriage and not second class citizens. If a marriage is not working or unfair for them they have the right to work itout, or leave as they see fit. I believe in that right. that doesnt mean I believe in disposable marriages, but it does mean that people shouldnt be locked into relationships that are unhealthy. Do some people have abortions because of convienance? Yes. Do some people have abortions for other, more problematic reasons? Yes. I dont want to get into an abortion argument here, because no one will change the others mind, and it is impossible for either side to convince the other. Does money carry too much importance in this society? Absolutely. Has money and power carried too much power in any society throughout history? Absolutely. The whole reason for slavery and quest for power was money. Wars are fought mostly for power and money, under the guise of religion, nationalism, etc. It has always been that way. However, it is only relatively recently that people have said NO to much of the systemic abuses committed in the name of money and power. There are still many more to say no to, more room to grow and evolve. Humanity is hardly a finished a product as far as what we could be. But, IMo, we are far more than what we have been. mark
