Unfortunately I dont recall the justice who made the excellent point that the NRA (and other lobbies) has DISTORTED the original intent of the second amendment and it is his greatest regret about becoming a justice on the Supreme Ct. I think it was Renquist.

*****There is no easy pat answer to this issue in my opinion.*****

This is true, but I'll take the NRA stance over Slick Willie's. If he had his way none of us would have guns. The Brady law was just the start for him. I've had guns all my life-shotguns and rifles for hunting and handguns for home protection-and also use them for target shooting at the gunnery range. Guns don't kill people-it's people that kill people. I honestly believe that without the NRA none of us would be able to own any guns by now. The NRA is not all bad. From what I have read they have some good programs for training youth in gun handling and safety. They appear to come on strong at times, but it is to protect our right to own arms. To lose this right would be a tragedy.
