I think some short term gains are probable. However, the CC noted that 3rd qtr shipment #'s would be down and that recovery was not anticipated until 1999 or possibly 2000. Thus, any significant appreciation is probably not in the cards for at least 3 months, ie, until the Asian impact works itself out, new orders increase, etc. Let's hope it's sooner rather than later. From a market position standpoint, Cymer still looks exceptionally strong.

Another wild card is China should they decide to devalue their currency. If the new leadership in Japan can build some confidence, then devaluation probably won't occur. Both countries need to come through. Thus far, Japan's recent implementation of permanent tax cuts and selection of a respected finance minister are steps in the right direction.

Thanks Bob. This news may have helped goose the semi and semi equip stocks today. Positive news on an upturn should help CYMI more than most, because they stand to benefit from DUV upgrades even before we begin to see major commitments to new fab construction.
