Haven't seen any comments on latest Merced woes being disclosed today.

Doubt this has much to do with Apple since this sector of the market was way out of Apple's league but I find it interesting. I read that NT 5.0 was going to incorporate most of the changes needed to move to an IA-64 system and that subsequently the NT 6.0 or whatever they were going to call it would be a relatively straight forward modification of NT 5.0. Again just what I've read. We all know NT 5.0 is delayed but apparently the IA-64 program is even further behind. I wonder if this portends greater stress in the Win-Tel partnership? Would Microsoft consider closer partnership with existing high end companies? Will this result in closer cooperation with Compaq/Digital in the Alpha program? Too bad Apple doesn't have any experience here - the margin on $100K and up machines must be quite nice. Guess IBM wouldn't appreciate it either since it competes with their mainframe business.
