SB,..Re:<< you now need to factor into your analysis the pros and cons of the DEC purchase.>>

I would suggest you go back a few months and read this thread and you will discover that we don't need to factor in the DEC purchase and that it has been analyzed to death here.

Regards,

Lee

OT- Stock Bull- My apologies if you felt I was trying to offend you...I was not....It is just that there is a lot of misinformation out there about what making money in the PC industry is all about....most of which is helped along (knowingly or unknowingly) by those who are "supposed" to be experts, ie., business journalists for many years, writers for major business publications, analysts at stock brokerage houses....As I devoted more time to monitoring my investments in recent years, it has become more and more apparent that there are many in this field that simply do not do their homework, or are prone to mis-statement.....

Had I limited my research of Dell (and the computer industry) to traditional (business)"knowledge" centers, I would have walked away with a (very) incomplete picture of what's really going on. I have found this thread to be a great (and valuable) source of information.
We have among us full-time investors, traders, people who have worked full-time in IT, information systems, and the like (you?), economists, entreprenuers...with this mix, I think we sometimes (oftentimes?) can give as complete as analysis as many of the "supposed" experts....

So, again, I am glad you are an active participant.

As well, I have a lot of respect for Compaq. They have a storied history. In some areas (product lines) Dell does not and can not compete with them....Without going into the whole DEC merger (which has been discussed, earlier this year, quite extensively here), I think it (the merger) will eventually accomplish what they (CPQ) are looking for (concerning Alpha, strengthening the service arm, high-end, etc), however, I don't think this merger will slow Dell one bit.......Adding DEC's service arm, IMO, will not weaken Dell's current growth (pace)....CPQ and Dell are moving further away from each other (different market segment focuses) than ever before...
You could have quite a nice conversation with Rudedog on this one...

Until next time, cheers...
