Providing an editor with a game is becoming a standard with FPS, RTS, and TBS games. Designing your own single and multiplayer (dm, ctf, etc.) levels has become so popular that developers are being forced to include an editor or face negative reviews and diminished sales. Another item the will make or break a game is multiplay, and it better work (Unreal has had problems in this area)or else sales will suffer.
Good Luck and have fun with the editor.
Cheers
Bill

<<<Why did they provide a map editor with Unreal. Are they providing the editor for educational purposes. Seems someone could develop a killer map, submit it to a website, get it evaluated and a 5 star rating and maybe a job offer as a game developer. >>>

Well not exactly. What you might have a shot at is a level editor which is quite a ways away from a game developer. You'd have to work your way up <g>. There have been a few level editors that entered the biz this way. It's not common but it does happen.
