On my first and only trip to Japan in 1985 or 86 (Whatshishame's Disease strikes!) I had my first nashi (apple-pear). It was almost a religious experience- so crisy and sweet and yet so full of liquid that it kind of dripped juice while I ate it. Ummmm.
But I have yet to have a really good one here. My in-laws have a apple-pear tree, but their fruit isn't very good, I'm afraid. Maybe it was the trip that made the first one taste so good, although I had one on the same trip a couple days later and it wasn't nearly as good. Maybe it was a magic nashi?
