Demetre:
I read that Americans prefer bagels to Doughnuts. Is this true?

I have no statistics (maybe someone else does?) but I think American's eat a lot more Doughnuts than Bagels. It has been 15 years since I was in the midwest, but they were non-existent there then. I expect bagels are getting more popular but Doughnuts are everywhere.

It is my understanding that in the U.S., there is only one national doughnut chain (Dunkin Donuts).

I think this is true but there is a lot of local doughnut chains. Also, there must be a Dunkin Donuts in every viable location in the US by now. As I said before, the competition is intense.

Another couple of positives on Wendy's is that they will be able to buy up some locations that were occupied by the now defunct Long John Silver and the soon to be defunct Boston Market. It is cheaper for them to buy these locations or take over the leases than build there own stores.

Most franchises don't allow this so that the store have a consistent "look". I would be surprised if Wendy's would allow it (but I don't know).

Congratulations on your purchase of Wendy's . I think you will handsomely rewarded over the next few years.

Thanks :)
