Skipper,

Theft of physical property within the community is unheard of, and practically impossible. Very little cash around, not many objects to steal, no way to hide or use what you've stolen. Usual theft cases involve chickens, which run pretty much wild and are sometimes grabbed to fuel a rice-wine session. If you're caught, you'd generally have to pay back several chickens and endure terrific shame. If you're single and male (usually the case), you would definitely not get laid for a long, long, time. The latter is a very effective sanction.

Lately, though, antique dealers have created a market for theft by offering young people large sums (by local standards) of cash for traditional items which the elders place great store by. I think the best response to this would be to take the heads of some antique dealers, but they've all gotten too civilized for that.
