Elmer, Re: "Take note of the phrase "next version". Not to be confused with "current version"
which is shipping."

I think you hit the nail right on the head. Maybe the 450 MHz, 2 MB cache version does require a different wrinkle chipset ,and that's what may need more testing. The key point you uncovered, and if I may draw it to a conclusion, is that the 400 MHz, 1 GB cache 4 way and beyond MP, which was supposed to have started shipping from Compaq and Dell last weekend, may be OK. BTW, That's still one hell of a server. Also, the detail that the "delayed" hardware was supposed to have started shipping in October confirms that it isn't the 400, 1 MB, 4 way, etc. that's delayed. Original ship date for that one was/is 7/98. This part of the report about confirms that the 400 MHz, etc., is OK. The only missing detail is 4 way.

Dell Computer Corp. (Nasdaq:DELL) and Compaq Computer Corp. (NYSE:CPQ) last
week began shipping servers with the 400MHz version of the 450NX, which can
support between 512KB and 1MB of cache. Those servers had been delayed because of
previously reported bugs in the chip set that Intel (Nasdaq:INTC) has since fixed.

Thanks for using the old eagle eye Elmer, and, yes, we need a much more clarified report on this.

Tony

Elmer

RE<Intel Corp. is delaying shipment of the next version of its 450NX Xeon chip set for servers until at least the beginning of 1999, company officials have confirmed."

THIS IS A VERY GOOD NEW FOR INTEL
