Tom: Thanks for the post. I think a "Smart" person like Riley will not do something like this for no reason, but as for what is exactly the reason, that's everybody's guess. After all, this kind of "hype" press releases contributes a great deal, if not all, to the "success" of Riley's own portfolio.

As for the practice of loading up on a stock ahead of time, then issue an upgrade, a lot of big stock funds are still doing it now everyday. The most recent example, Goldman Sachs yesterday loaded up 1 million shares of CPQ, and then gave a press release after the market close. There is NO LEVEL PLAYING field after all!!
