OK, let's see if I can put another notch in my theory...The yen is off badly tonight, so our markets will be up tomorrow...

Ain't this fun.

Robert, >>Raising interest rates is killing its hype real estate market which was analogous to Japan in the late 80s. Will the collapse of their real estate also increases the bank's bad debt? Will it result in the same situation as Japan - banking crisis?

First of all I was not predicting what will happen to the HK dollar. What I was saying they are fighting the speculators with high interest rates while they are lowering taxes. Also, the interest on real-estate was not deductible, and now it is. The real-estate in HK has taken a 30% or so hit todate. I also do not know how their banks are accounting for the bad loans. I have no idea if they will drop the HK$ peg to the US$. I can not see in the future--darn.<ggg>

Did Japan raise interest rates and lower taxes?

The rumors are that the speculators are betting against the HK$. Time will tell.

Joan
