Chuck:

Using the ramp and pillar method under the lake will likely present some problems due to the permeable nature of the ore. Bulk sample extraction at Diavik under Lac de Gras clearly demonstrated the difficulties involved. However man is an ingenious creature by nature and when the ingenuity is motivated by desire for profit (greed) then it becomes only a matter of money and engineering. It will also depend on the angle of dip of the ore deposit as it intersects any water bodies and whether any of the ore is exposed to the water. Should the company get very lucky they may have a cap seal of country rock that would reduce the water problems as or if the deposit extends out under the lake.
